Paul Wesley appeared in soap-operas, ‘Another World’ (1999) and ‘Guiding Light’ (1999-2001) while he was in high school. He then acted in several episodes of ‘Law & Order: SVU’ (2000, 2005), and the TV-film ‘Shot in the Heart’ (2001), before portraying ‘Luke Cates’ in the supernatural-drama series ‘Wolf Lake’ (2001-2002).
In the TV-film ‘Young Arthur’ (2002), Wesley essayed ‘Lancelot’ and had a recurring role as ‘Tommy DeFelice’ in the drama-series ‘American Dreams’ (2002-2005). He made his film debut in ‘The Last Run’ (2004), and then acted in the comedy-drama film ‘Roll Bounce’ (2005), the direct-to-video sports-comedy ‘Cloud 9’ (2006), and the drama-film ‘Peaceful Warrior’ (2006).
Wesley featured in various TV-series, including ‘The O.C.’ ‘Smallville,’ ‘8 Simple Rules,’ ‘CSI: Miami,’ ‘CSI: NY,’ ’24,’ ‘Cane’ amongst others. He had a recurring role (as teen drug-dealer) in the drama-series ‘Everwood’ (2003-2004), and ‘Army Wives’ (2008-2009). He starred as ‘Aaron Corbett’ in the miniseries ‘Fallen’ (2007). In 2008, he starred in the TV-film ‘The Russell Girl’ and the slasher-film ‘Killer Movie.’
In 2009, Wesley portrayed ‘Stefan Salvatore’ in the supernatural drama-series ‘The Vampire Diaries’ (2009-2017), his breakthrough role that brought popularity and nominations with two ‘Teen Choice Awards,’ and a ‘Young Hollywood Award.’ He directed some episodes from season-5 and was producer of the series from season-8.Â
Concurrently, Wesley starred in several movies, including the crime-thriller ‘Elsewhere’ (2009), the drama-film ‘Beneath the Blue’ (2010), the action-comedy ‘The Baytown Outlaws’ (2012). In 2014, he co-starred in the romantic-comedy ‘Amira & Sam’ and produced/co-starred in the drama-film ‘Before I Disappear.’ He featured in the 2016 comedy-drama film ‘The Late Bloomer’ and the drama-film ‘Mothers & Daughters.’ He portrayed ‘Clint Romesha’ in an episode of ‘Medal of Honor’ (2018).
Wesley played the lead as ‘Tucker Reed’ in the psychological-thriller anthology-series ‘Tell Me a Story’ (2018-2020).
