Andre Keith Braugher made his film debut in 1989 with historical war-dram ‘Glory’ as a black man joining Union Army’s first African-American regiment. He appeared as ‘Detective Blake’ in TV film-series ‘Kojack’ (1989), followed by more TV-films including ‘The Court-Martial of Jackie Robinson’ (1990) as ‘Jackie Robinson.’ Braugher featured in action-thriller film ‘Striking Distance’ (1993), legal-thriller ‘Primal Fear’ (1996), Spike Lee’s drama-film ‘Get on the Bus’ (1996).
In 1993, Braugher was cast as central character, upright ‘Detective Frank Pembleton’ in police-drama series ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ (1993-1998), earning popularity, awards and two Primetime Emmy nominations with one win (1998). He reprised the role in ‘Homicide: The Movie’ (2000).
Braugher further appeared in romantic-fantasy ‘City of Angels’ (1998), In 2000’s action-thriller ‘A Better Way to Die,’ sci-fi thriller ‘Frequency,’ road-trip film ‘Duets’ and 2006’s survival-thriller ‘Poseidon.’
In the medical-series ‘Gideon’s Crossing’ (2000-2001) Braugher starred in titular role of ‘Ben Gideon.’ Next, he featured as ‘Detective Washington’ in crime-drama series ‘Hack’ (2002-2004), followed by primary role as ‘A. Philip Randolph’ in TV-film ’10,000 Black Men named George’ (2002).
Braugher’s performance as mastermind thief ‘Nick Atwater’ in thriller-crime miniseries ‘Thief’ won him second Primetime Emmy Award. After appearing in sci-fi miniseries ‘The Andromeda Strain’ (2008), he played ‘psychiatrist Dr. Nolan’ in Medical-drama series ‘House, M.D.’ (2009-2012).
Braugher portrayed one of the three middle-aged best friends in comedy-drama series ‘Men of a Certain Age’ (2009-2011), winning two Emmy nominations (2010,2011). He appeared as ‘Gen. Hager’ in superhero-film ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ (2007), followed by sci-fi horror-film ‘The Mist’ (2007). He had recurring role in ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ (2011-2015) and main role as ‘Capt. Marcus Chaplin’ in military-drama series ‘Last Resort’ (2012-2013).
Braugher’s role as ‘Precinct Capt. Raymond Holt’ in critically acclaimed, award-winning police-procedural series ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ (2013-2021) fetched him four Emmy nominations. In action-spy thriller ‘Salt’ (2010) he played ‘secretary of defense’ and further appeared in action-comedy film ‘The Baytown Outlaws’ (2012).
Braugher provided voice as ‘Darkseid’ in ‘Superman/Batman: Apocalypse’ (2010), and as ‘Al Granger’ in ‘Spirit Untamed’ (2021). He was narrator for documentaries ‘Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet’ (2002), and ‘Murder of Emmett Till’ (2003).
