Richard Tiffany Gere initially appeared on stage productions, including ‘Grease’ (1973). After featuring in minor TV and films roles, he was first noticed in supporting roles in ‘Looking for Mr. Goodbar’ (1977), and ‘Days of Heaven’ (1978).
Gere’s title role in the crime-film ‘American Gigolo’ (1980) established him as a leading man, while the romantic-drama ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ (1982) brought success and award nominations. He further featured in ‘Breathless’ (1983), ‘King David’ (1985), ‘No Mercy’ (1986), and many others.
In 1990, Gere starred in crime-thriller ‘Internal Affairs’ and romantic-comedy ‘Pretty Woman,’ which proved very successful fetching him accolades. Next, he appeared in period-drama ‘Sommersby’ (1993), legal-thriller ‘Primal Fear’ (1996), action-thriller ‘The Jackal’ (1997), and romantic-comedy ‘Runaway Bride’ (1999).
After the supernatural film ‘The Mothman Prophecies’ and the erotic-thriller ‘Unfaithful’ in 2002, he starred in the musical-crime ‘Chicago,’ winning accolades. His next ‘Shall We Dance?’ (2004) was a commercial success.
Gere appeared in the thriller ‘The Hunting Party’ (2007), semi-biographical ‘I’m Not There’ (2007), and romantic-drama ‘Nights in Rodanthe’ (2008). His performances in ‘Arbitrage’ (2012) and ‘Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer’ (2016) got him rave reviews. He also starred in British series ‘MotherFatherSon’ (2019).
