Smart continued to appear in films such as ‘Road Trip’ (2000), ‘Scotland, PA’ (2001), ‘Rat Race’ (2001), ‘Interstate 60’ (2002), ‘National Lampoon's Barely Legal’ (2003), ‘The Battle of Shaker Heights’ (2003), and ‘Blind Horizon’ (2003). In 2004, she was seen playing the role ‘Kayleigh Miller’ in the American science fiction thriller film ‘The Butterfly Effect’ directed by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber. Even though the film received a negative response from critics, it did decent business at the box office, grossing over $96.8 million on a budget of $13 million. That same year, she also appeared in the American buddy cop action comedy film ‘Starsky & Hutch’ directed by Todd Phillips. The film saw negative reviews upon release but was a major commercial success. The following year, she starred as ‘Grace Hargrove / Roxanne’ in the American drama film ‘Bigger Than the Sky’ directed by Al Corley. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
