Neil Patrick Harris made his film debut in the 1988 Robert Mulligan-directed drama film ‘Clara's Heart.’ He played the role of ‘David Hart’ in the film which earned him a ‘Golden Globe Award’ nomination. That same year, he also appeared as ‘Danny Harland’ in the television film ‘Too Good to Be True’ and thus marked his debut on television. In 1989, he starred as Douglas "Doogie" Howser in the medical drama series 'Doogie Howser, M.D.' He earned critical acclaim for his performance and even won 3 ‘People's Choice Awards’ and a ‘Young Artist Award.’ Â
Neil continued to star in television series and shows such as 'Blossom' (1991), 'Roseanne' (1992), 'Quantum Leap' (1993), 'The Outer Limits' (1996), 'Joan of Arc' (1999), ‘Stark Raving Mad’ (1999-2000), ‘Will & Grace’ (2001), and ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ (2004). Neil Patrick was next seen as ‘Barney Stinson’ in the 2005 television sitcom series ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ He earned many award nominations for his roles in the series including 3 ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ nominations. His performance in the comedy-drama miniseries ‘Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’ (2009) got him the Best Male Actor in a Comedy Web Series at the Streamy Awards.Â
Neil Patrick Harris also maintained his presence on the big screen and has continued to appear in films such as ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ (2009), ‘Beastly’ (2011), ‘A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas’ (2011), ‘The Smurfs 2’ (2013), and ‘Gone Girl’ (2014). Harris hosted the Oscars for the first time in 2015 and it turned out to be a bit of a fiasco as his jokes fell flat and the audience was not really impressed by his performance. It was not so much the way he presented it, but the material was just not good enough.Â
In 2021, Neil joined the anime anthology series ‘Star Wars: Visions’ where he voices the character ‘Karre.’ He is all set to appear in the upcoming science-fiction action film ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ directed by Lana Wachowski. He will also be seen in the upcoming action comedy film ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.’Â
