Benjamin Jeremy Stein began his entertainment career as a consultant for the TV show ‘All’s Fair’ (1976) and the comedy show ‘Fernwood 2Night’ (1977). His first screen appearance was a brief part in the comedy-drama film ‘The Wild Life’ (1984), but the first noticeable role was as the ‘economics teacher’ in the teen-comedy ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ (1986).
After appearing in the comedy film ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’ (1987), Stein had a recurring role in the TV sitcom ‘Charles in Charge’ (1987-1990), ‘The Wonder Years’ (1989-1991) and ‘MacGyver’ (1991), besides film appearances such as ‘Ghostbusters II’ (1989), ‘Easy Wheels’ (1989), ‘Soapdish’ (1991), and ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’ (1992). He was the screenwriter for the drama film ‘The Boost’ (1988) and appeared as himself in the political-comedy film ‘Dave’ (1993).
In 1993, Stein appeared on the TV series ‘Melrose Place,’ ‘Dennis the Menace,’ ‘Full House,’ ‘Animaniacs,’ ‘Hearts Afire,’ and in 1995, he appeared on ‘Tales from the Crypt,’ ‘Married…With Children,’ ‘Muppets Tonight,’ ‘The Marshal,’ and then in 1997, ‘Seinfeld,’ ‘101 Dalmatians: The Series.’
His movie appearances came in comedy-dramas ‘Me & the Kid’ (1993) and ‘My Girl 2’ (1994); and as ‘Dr. Arthur Neuman’ in the superhero comedy ‘The Mask’ (1994) and its sequel, ‘Son of the Mask’ (2005), the comedy ‘Richie Rich’ (1994), the supernatural dark fantasy ‘Casper’ (1995), ‘Casper: A Spirited Beginning’ (1997) and more.
In 1997, Stein began hosting his multiple Emmy-winning game show ‘Win Ben Stein’s Money’ (1997-2002), wherein the participants had to outwit Stein to win money. Next, he executive-produced, composed the theme music and hosted the talk show ‘Turn Ben Stein On’ (1999). He then co-hosted the clip show ‘Most Outrageous Game-Show Moments’ (2002), and presented the VH1 series ‘Game-Show Moments Gone Bananas’ (2005). In 2007, he hosted the reality TV show ‘America’s Most Smartest Model.’
After being part of the documentary ‘Your Mommy Kills Animals’ (2007), Stein wrote the screenplay and starred in the documentary film ‘Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed’ (2008). He also participated in several game shows, such as ‘The Weakest Link,’ ‘Match Game,’ ‘Hollywood Squares’ (1998-2004), ‘Cavuto on Business’ (2012-2018) and others.
Stein lent his voice in ‘Freakkazoid,’ ‘The Mask,’ ‘Bruno the Kid,’ ‘Duckman,’ ‘Earthworm Jim,’ ‘Rugrats,’ ‘Emperor’s New School,’ ‘The Fairly OddParents,’ ‘The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius,’ and many other projects. Stein was the screenwriter for the miniseries ‘Amerika’ and wrote the outline for the TV film ‘Murder in Mississippi.’ He was a judge on the TV series ‘Pet Star’ (2002-2003) and ‘Star Search’ (2003). Stein played himself in the series ‘The Factor’ (2005-2012) and ‘Happening Now’ (2012-2013). His latest screen appearance was in the sci-fi film ‘The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time’ (2018).
