Alan Douglas Ruck made his debut in the 1983 American coming-of-age crime drama film ‘Bad Boys’ directed by Rick Rosenthal. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and was a financial success. That same year, he also appeared in the American comedy-drama film ‘Class’ which was a major box office success. The following year, he made his TV debut in the television film ‘Hard Knox.’ He went on to appear in television films like ‘First Steps’ (1985) and ‘Shooter’ (1988) before joining the cast of the American television sitcom ‘Going Places’ in 1990. He appeared in 19 episodes and remained a part of the show until 1991. In 1992, he became a part of the American sketch comedy television series ‘The Edge’ created by David Mirkin. He next appeared in the 2007 American comedy film ‘Kickin' It Old Skool.’ The film was panned by critics and was a box office bomb. He played the role of a ghost in the 2008 American fantasy comedy film ‘Ghost Town’ directed by David Koepp. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics. He next starred in films like ‘Eavesdrop’ (2008), ‘Star Trek: Of Gods and Men’ (2008), ‘I Love You, Beth Cooper’ (2009), and ‘Extraordinary Measures’ (2010).Â

He was last seen in the 2020 American slasher comedy film ‘Freaky’ directed by Christopher Landon. The film opened to a positive reception and was a commercial success.
