Stephen Merchant started out as a stand-up comedian. He made his debut in the television series ‘Comedy Lab’ in 1999. The next year, he starred in the comedy talk show ‘Meet Ricky Gervais.’ In 2001, Stephen Merchant joined hands with Ricky Gervais and they came out with the television mockumentary sitcom ‘The Office.’ Apart from being the co-creator, Merchant was also the actor and writer of the show and won several awards for his performance, including an ‘Emmy’ and ‘Golden Globe Award’ along with 3 ‘British Academy Television Awards and 2 ‘British Comedy Awards.’
In 2005, Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais again came together and created the show ‘Extras,’ a sitcom about the extras working for television and films. The show became a huge success and earned Merchant his second ‘Golden Globe Award.’ He went on to appear in television shows such as ‘24’ (2007), ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’ (2010-2012), ‘Hello Ladies’ (2013), Robot Chicken (2014), and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ (2015).
In 2015, Stephen and Ricky Gervais came together again to create a music reality show named ‘Lip Sync Battle.’ In 2016, Stephen joined the main cast of 'Dream Corp, LLC,' a black comedy television series. He plays the role of ‘T.E.R.R.Y’ on the show.
As a film actor, he has acted in 'Hot Fuzz' (2007), 'The Invention of Lying' (2009), 'Cemetery Junction' (2010), 'Tooth Fairy' (2010), 'Hall Pass' (2011), 'I Give It a Year' (2013), 'Logan' (2017), 'The Girl in the Spider's Web' (2018), 'Fighting with My Family' (2019) and 'Good Boys' (2019). Merchant has also worked as a voice actor in 'Bromwell High' (2005), 'The Ricky Gervais Show' (The Ricky Gervais Show), 'Robot Chicken' (2014), 'The Simpsons' (2016) and 'American Dad!' (2016).
Stephen Merchant is currently playing the role of ‘Greg’ in the 6-part comic crime thriller series ‘The Outlaws.’ He is also the co-creator and director of the series.
