Isla Fisher was first seen as ‘Robyn Devereaux Barsby’ in the Australian television series ‘Paradise Beach’ in 1993. The following year, she grabbed the lead role in the Australian television soap opera series ‘Home and Away.’ Her performance as ‘Shannon Reed’ received mass acclaim and earned her 2 ‘Logie Award’ nominations. She remained a part of the show till 1997. Right after her exit from the show, Fisher starred in the short film titled ‘Bum Magnet’ where she played the role of ‘Emma.’Â
She made her big-screen debut with the 2001 German slasher film ‘Swimming Pool’ directed by Boris von Sychowski. The film received mixed to negative reviews. Film critic Jim Harper called the film ‘derivative and stereotyped.’ After starring in films like ‘Scooby-Doo’ (2002), ‘The Wannabes’ (2003), ‘I Heart Huckabees’ (2004), she portrayed the role of ‘Gloria Cleary’ in the 2005 American romantic comedy film ‘Wedding Crashers’ which earned her the ‘MTV Movie Award’ for ‘Best Breakthrough Performance.’Â
In 2009, Fisher starred in the romantic comedy film ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic,’ directed by P. J. Hogan. She played the role of ‘Rebecca "Becky" Bloomwood’ for which she bagged the ‘Teen Choice Award’ nomination. While the film was panned by critics, it managed to do a decent business at the box office. She was next seen in films like ‘Burke and Hare’ (2010), ‘Bachelorette’ (2012) and ‘The Great Gatsby’ (2013).
In the 2013 heist thriller ‘Now You See Me,’ Fisher portrayed the role of ‘Henley Reeves / The High Priestess.’ The film received mixed reviews with critics calling the ending abrupt and somewhat disappointing. Nevertheless, the film was a commercial success, grossing $351.7 million on a budget of $75 million.Â
Apart from films, Fisher has also appeared on television series and shows such as ‘Sunburn’ (2000), ‘Attila’ (2001), ‘BeastMaster’ (2002), ‘Neighbors from Hell’ (2010), ‘Arrested Development’ (2013 and 2018), and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ (2020).Â
In 2021, Isla Fisher appeared in the computer-animated adventure comedy film ‘Back to the Outback’ where she voiced the character ‘Maddie.’
