Michael Sheen started his career as a theatre actor and made noteworthy performances in ‘When She Danced’ (1991), ‘Neon Gravy’ (1991), ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (1992), and ‘A View from the Bridge’ (1993). He made his television debut in 1993 with the drama series ‘Gallowglass’ where he played the role of ‘Joe.’ Sheen made his big-screen debut in the 1995 American drama film ‘Othello.’ The film was based on the tragedy of the same name written by William Shakespeare. Â
After starring in films like ‘Mary Reilly’ (1996), ‘Heartlands’ (2002), ‘The Four Feathers’ (2002), and ‘Bright Young Things’ (2003), Sheen got his breakthrough role as ‘Lucian’ in the 2003 action horror film ‘Underworld’ directed by Len Wiseman. The film opened to mixed reviews from critics and was a surprise hit at the box office. He was next seen in ‘Laws of Attraction’ (2004), ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ (2005), and ‘The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse’ (2005). In 2006, he played the role of ‘Tony Blair’ in the British biographical drama film ‘The Queen’ which earned him the ‘Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award’ and the ‘Toronto Film Critics Association Award’ for ‘Best Supporting Actor.’Â
In 2009, Sheen reprised his role as ‘Lucian’ in the American action horror film ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.’ The film received a mixed response from critics and was a box office success. He made his voice debut in the 2010 American dark fantasy film ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ While the film opened to a mixed reception, it was a massive success at the box office and became the second-highest-grossing film of 2010.
He went on to star in films like ‘Midnight in Paris’ (2011), ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ (2011), ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ (2012), ‘The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box’ (2014), ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ (2016), ‘Home Again’ (2017), ‘Slaughterhouse Rulez’ (2018), and ‘How to Build a Girl’ (2019). He was last seen in the 2020 American fantasy adventure film ‘Dolittle’ directed by Stephen Gaghan. The film was panned by critics and was a box office failure.Â
Sheen is all set to appear in the upcoming British Christmas film ‘Last Train to Christmas’ where he will play the role of ‘Tony Towers.’
