American actor Jake Gyllenhaal made his film debut as child artist in American western comedy ‘City Slickers’ (1991). His breakthrough role was that of Homer Hickam in the 1999 American biographical film ‘October Sky’. The ensuing years saw him getting critical acclaim featuring in notable films like ‘Donnie Darko’ (2001); ‘Brokeback Mountain’ (2005) that won him BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role apart from several award nominations including Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor; and ‘Nightcrawler’ (2014).
Coming from a family of filmmaker parents, Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal (née Achs), Jake was exposed to showbiz from an early age that later led him to commence his career in acting as a child artist. He went on to prove his mettle with several power-packed performances in many successful films. However, some of his films were also censured by both critics and audience as his worst performances.
