Diane Ladd has portrayed over 140 diverse characters during her decades-long career, which started with uncredited minor parts in several films in the early 1960s and TV series in late 1950.
In 1968, she appeared in Broadway’s ‘Carry Me Back to Morningside Heights.’ Her performance in ‘A Texas Trilogy: Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander’ (1976) fetched her ‘Drama Desk’ nomination.
After working in a supporting role in Roman Polanski’s ‘Chinatown’ (1974), she played ‘Flo’ in Martin Scorsese’s ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’ (1974) which earned her ‘Academy Award’ nomination and ‘BAFTA Award (1976),’ both for ‘Best Supporting Actress.’ Her work in the series ‘Alice’ (1980-1981) won her nominations and ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.’
Ladd’s other notable films include ‘Embryo’ (1976), ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’ (1989), romantic comedy ‘Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me’ (1990), TV movie ‘The Devil’s Daughter’ (1973), mini-series ‘Black Beauty’ (1978) among many others.
In ‘Wild at Heart’ (1990) and ‘Rambling Rose’ (1991) Ladd worked with her daughter, Laura Dern, and she received ‘Academy Award’ nominations for Best Supporting Actress for both films.
Ladd appears in the series ‘Chesapeake Shores’ (2016---).
