American actress and comedian Anne Meara was part of the popular comedy duo ‘Stiller and Meara’ with her husband Jerry Stiller in the 1960s and 70s. Her highest rated performance on the big screen was as Wilma in the comedy film ‘Lovers and Other Strangers’ (1970). Her other movies that received positive reviews were ‘The Boys from Brazil’ (1978), ‘Awakenings’ (1990), ‘The Daytrippers’ (1997) and ‘Judy Berlin’ (1999). Her performance as Alice Bushkin in ‘Heavyweights’ (1995) and Mrs. Quinn in ‘Southie’ (1998) got mixed reviews.
Meara starred in her own legal drama series ‘Kate McShane’ (1975) for which she was nominated for an Emmy award. However, the series had to be cancelled after 10 episodes. Her highest rated performance on television was in the series ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ (1993 – 1999). She played the role of Mary Brady in ‘Sex and the City’ (2002 – 2004) and Mrs Ida Becker in ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ (2004 – 1012) before she died in 2015 due to multiple strokes.
