Keith David made his debut in the 1979 American action film ‘Disco Godfather’ directed by J. Robert Wagoner. In 1983, he made his first television appearance in the American half-hour educational children's television series ‘Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.’ He remained a part of the series until 1985. He continued on to appear in series like ‘The Equalizer’ (1988), ‘A Man Called Hawk’ (1989), ‘Against the Law’ (1990), ‘3×3 Eyes’ (1991), ‘The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles’ (1993), ‘The Last Outlaw’ (1993), and ‘Aladdin’ (1994-1995). In 1995, he starred as ‘Sergeant Cantrell’ in the American Revisionist Western film ‘The Quick and the Dead’ directed by Sam Raimi. The film opened to mixed reviews from critics and was a box office disappointment. The following year, he appeared in the American road comedy film ‘Larger than Life’ which also failed at the box office.
He was next seen in films like ‘Volcano’ (1997), ‘Hercules’ (1997), ‘Armageddon’ (1998), and ‘Princess Mononoke’ (1999). The year 2000 saw the release of the American science fiction action horror film ‘Pitch Black’ where David was seen playing the role of Abu "Imam" Al-Walid. The film saw mixed reviews upon release and became a sleeper hit. ‘Pitch Black’ gained a strong cult following in the subsequent years. That same year, he also starred in the American sports comedy film ‘The Replacements’ directed by Howard Deutch. The film opened to negative reviews from critics with Roger Ebert calling it a "Slap-happy entertainment painted in broad strokes, two coats thick." He continued to appear in films like ‘Pretty When You Cry’ (2001), ‘Barbershop’ (2002), ‘Hollywood Homicide’ (2003), ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ (2004), ‘Transporter 2’ (2005), ‘Delta Farce’ (2007), ‘Superhero Movie’ (2008), ‘Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia’ (2009), ‘Stomp the Yard: Homecoming’ (2010), ‘The Greening of Whitney Brown’ (2011), and ‘The Undershepherd’ (2012).
He starred as ‘Freddy’ in the 2013 action thriller film ‘Assault on Wall Street’ directed by Uwe Boll. The film saw mostly negative reviews upon release. In 2015, he was seen playing the role of ‘Barry’ in the American fantasy comedy film ‘Kids vs Monsters’ directed by Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki. While the general review of ‘Kids vs Monsters’ was negative, some critics tried highlighting some good parts of the movie. He next appeared in films like ‘Range 15’ (2016), ‘Savage Dog’ (2017), ‘You Might Be the Killer’ (2018), ‘Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror’ (2019), ‘Most Guys Are Losers’ (2020), and ‘The Seventh Day’ (2021).
David was last seen in the 2021 family comedy film ‘Pups Alone’ directed by Alex Merkin. The film received a mixed response from critics. He will be next seen in the American comedy film ‘Unplugging’ directed by Debra Neil-Fisher.
