Wesley Snipes made his debut in the 1984 television soap opera titled ‘All My Children.’ In 1986, he made his movie debut with the Michael Ritchie-directed sports comedy film ‘Wildcats.’ That same year, he also starred in the drama film titled ‘Streets of Gold,’ where he played the character of ‘Roland Jenkins.’ After appearing in a few unsuccessful movies like ‘Critical Condition’ (1987), ‘Major League’ (1989), and ‘King of New York’ (1990), Wesley made his comeback with the 1991 crime thriller film ‘New Jack City’ directed by Mario Van Peebles. He won the ‘Image Award’ for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Motion Picture’ for his performance in the film.
Wesley Snipes went on to star in movies like ‘White Men Can't Jump’ (1992), ‘Passenger 57’ (1992), ‘Boiling Point’ (1993), ‘Demolition Man’ (1993), and ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar’ (1995). The movies performed well at the box office and established Wesley Snipes as a successful star. He continued his success with ‘Money Train’ (1995), ‘One Night Stand’ (1997), and ‘U.S. Marshals’ (1998).
In 1988, Wesley starred in the superhero horror film ‘Blade,’ where he portrayed the role of ‘Blade,’ a hybrid vampire who hunts vampires. While the movie opened to a mixed response from critics, it managed to earn big numbers at the box office. Snipes reprised his role as ‘Blade’ in ‘Blade II’ (2002) and ‘Blade: Trinity’ (2004).
After ‘Blade: Trinity,’ Snipes starred in mostly Direct-to-DVD films, such as ‘7 Seconds’ (2005), ‘The Marksman’ (2005), ‘The Detonator’ (2006), The Contractor’ (2007), and ‘The Art of War II: Betrayal’ (2008). The year 2009 saw the release of the Antoine Fuqua-directed crime film ‘Brooklyn's Finest.’ This movie was the first theatrical release of Wesley Snipes in 4 years.
In 2014, Snipes appeared in ‘The Expendables 3,’ where he played the role of ‘Doctor "Doc" Death.’ The movie received negative reviews from critics, but ended up becoming a blockbuster hit.
Apart from films, Snipes has also appeared in popular television series, such as ‘Miami Vice’ (1986), ‘The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd’ (1989), and ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ (2019).
In 2021, Wesley Snipes played the role of ‘General Izzi’ in the Craig Brewer-directed comedy film ‘Coming 2 America.’ He is all set to appear in the upcoming comedy film ‘Back on the Strip.’
