Chris Rock was first seen in the 1985 American musical comedy-drama film ‘Krush Groove’ directed by Michael Schultz. In 1987, he appeared in the American buddy action comedy film ‘Beverly Hills Cop II’ where he played the role of a parking valet. Even though the film received mixed reviews from critics, it emerged as a major commercial success and grossed over $276.5 million against a budget of $27 million. In 1990, he became a part of the American late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show ‘Saturday Night Live.’ He starred in 59 episodes and remained on the show until 1993. He played the role of ‘Albert Brown / M.C. Gusto’ in the 1993 American comedy film ‘CB4’ directed by Tamra Davis. The film received a mixed response from critics and grossed over $17.9 million on a budget of $6 million. Rock was also one of the writers of the film. The following year, he starred as ‘Yuck Mouth’ in the Mario Van Peebles-directed film, ‘Panther.’ The film received mixed to negative reviews from critics and was given an approval rating of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes.Â
In 1996, he starred in the television comedy special ‘Chris Rock: Bring the Pain’ which earned him 2 ‘Primetime Emmy Awards.’ In 1997, he created the late-night talk show ‘The Chris Rock Show.’ The show ran for 5 seasons and aired its final episode in 2000. Rock also received a ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ for his performance in the show. He voiced ‘Rodney’ in the 1998 American fantasy comedy film ‘Dr. Dolittle’ directed by Betty Thomas. Despite opening to a mixed reception, the film was quite successful at the box office. He next appeared in films like ‘Dogma’ (1999), ‘Nurse Betty’ (2000), ‘Down to Earth’ (2001), ‘Pootie Tang’ (2001), ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ (2001), ‘Bad Company’ (2002), ‘Head of State’ (2003), and ‘Paparazzi’ (2004). In 2005, he voiced ‘Marty’ in the American computer-animated comedy film ‘Madagascar’ directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath. The film was met with mixed reviews from critics but that didn’t stop it from emerging as one of the highest-grossing films of 2005. That same year, he was also seen in the American sports comedy film ‘The Longest Yard’ which was also a commercial success. Â
