Mother’s Day is an American romantic comedy film which revolves around the lives of several seemingly unconnected people living in Atlanta, who come to terms with their relationships with their mothers, as Mother’s Day approaches.
Shay Mitchell was first seen in the Canadian teen drama television series ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’ in 2009. The following year, she joined the main cast of the American teen drama mystery thriller television series ‘Pretty Little Liars’ as ‘Emily Fields.’ The series aired 160 episodes in a span of 7 seasons before going off-air in 2017. Mitchell also received several award nominations, including 6 ‘Teen Choice Award’ nominations, for her portrayal of Emily Fields in the show. She continued to star in television series like ‘Aaron Stone’ (2010), ‘Rookie Blue’ (2010), ‘Punk'd’ (2012), ‘Glee’ (2012), and ‘Project Runway’ (2015). She made her first big-screen appearance in the 2016 American musical comedy-drama film ‘Dreamland’ directed by Robert Schwartzman. The reviews for the film were somewhere between mixed and positive and it currently holds a 67% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes. That same year, she also played the role of ‘Tina’ in the Garry Marshall-directed American romantic dramedy film ‘Mother's Day.’ The film was largely panned by critics and grossed over $48.8 million on a budget of $25 million. In 2018, she played the role of ‘Megan Reed’ in the American supernatural horror thriller film ‘The Possession of Hannah Grace’ directed by Diederik van Rooijen. The film, despite receiving negative reviews from critics, managed to gross over $43 million on a budget of $6–7.7 million.
In 2019, she starred as ‘Stella Cole’ in the American comedy streaming television series ‘Dollface’ created by Jordan Weiss. The series was canceled after two seasons in 2022. In 2021, she joined the voice cast of the Singaporean anime-influenced streaming television series ‘Trese’ as ‘Alexandra Trese.’ The series aired a total of 6 episodes. Mitchell last appeared in the American anthology comedy television series ‘Miracle Workers’ in 2021.
