The following year, he made his television debut in the drama series ‘Runaway.’ He played the role of ‘Stephen’ and appeared in just 2 episodes. In 2008, he joined the main cast of the teen sitcom ‘True Jackson, VP’ as ‘Jimmy Madigan.’ The show ran for almost 3 years, from November 2008 to August 2011. He was next seen in shows like ‘How I Met Your Mother’ (2011), ‘Revenge’ (2011-2012), ‘Alcatraz’ (2012), ‘Pretty Little Liars’ (2012), ‘Hawaii Five-0’ (2012), and ‘Hot in Cleveland’ (2013).
In 2013, Amell grabbed the role of ‘Stephen Jameson’ in the science fiction television series ‘The Tomorrow People.’ He remained a part of the show until it went off-air in 2014. In 2020, he again got himself a lead role in the science fiction comedy-drama television series ‘Upload.’ The series is currently running its second season. Â
Apart from television, Amell has also starred in many films, including ‘Left for Dead’ (2007), ‘Struck by Lightning’ (2012), ‘The DUFF’ (2015), ‘Nine Lives’ (2016), ‘The Babysitter’ (2017), ‘When We First Met’ (2018), ‘Desperados’ (2020), and ‘Eat Wheaties!’ (2020). He was last seen in the 2021 action horror film ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’ directed by Johannes Roberts. The film opened to mixed reviews from critics. He is all set to appear in the upcoming Canadian science fiction action film ‘Code 8: Part II’ where he will play the role of ‘Connor Reed.’
