The film opened to critical acclaim and did fairly well at the box office. In 2003, he starred as ‘Rohit Patel’ in the Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho,’ directed by Nikhil Advani. The film earned praise from critics who lauded the screenplay and the performance of the cast. Khan also earned the ‘Filmfare Award’ for his performance. The year 2004 saw the release of the Hindi-language romantic comedy film ‘Hum Tum’ where he appeared in the role of ‘Karan Kapoor.’ The film received mixed response from critics and did decent business at the box office. Khan once again received of the Filmfare Award for his performance in the film. He also received the ‘National Award’ for his role.
In 2006, Saif appeared in the crime drama film ‘Omkara,’ directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The film was inspired by William Shakespeare's ‘Othello.’ The film impressed both the critics and the audience and was a major box office success. Khan’s portrayal of Ishwar "Langda" Tyagi earned him several awards and accolades, including the ‘Filmfare Award,’ ‘IIFA Award,’ and ‘Zee Cine Award.’ He next starred in films like ‘Eklavya: The Royal Guard’ (2007), ‘Race’ (2008), ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ (2008), ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Aarakshan’ (2011), ‘Agent Vinod’ (2012), ‘Race 2’ (2013), ‘Go Goa Gone’ (2013), ‘Humshakals’ (2014), ‘Phantom’ (2015), and ‘Rangoon’ (2017).
