Aamir Khan started his acting career at the age of eight when he appeared in ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’ as a child actor. His first acting project came in 1984 with a brief role in ‘Holi,’ an experimental social drama. He first tasted success with ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ where he played the lead. He bagged in a ‘National Film Award-Special Mention’ for his performance in ‘Raakh.’ He established himself firmly in Bollywood in the 1990s with top-grossing and highly successful films like ‘Raja Hindustani,’ and ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke.’ In the film ‘Earth,’ he appeared in an atypical role.
His first release under his production company ‘Amir Khan Productions’ was ‘Lagaan,’ which earned him a nomination for the ‘Academy Award’; he also won the ‘National Film Award’ for the same. He was also seen in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, an acclaimed movie starring alongside Akshaye Khanna and Saif Ali Khan. He portrayed Mangal Pandey in ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’ which was a flop at the box office. After this failure he was seen in two successful films ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Fanaa’ where he played the lead.
‘Taare Zameen Par’ marked his directorial debut in 2007, in which he was also seen playing the supporting role. The movie was commercially and critically successful and Khan won the ‘National Film Award’ in the category of Best Film on Family Welfare. Some of his other high-grossing films include ‘Ghajini, PK, Dangal, Dhoom 3 and 3 Idiots.’ He is also the host of ‘Satyamev Jayate’, a television talk show which is produced by him.
