Farah Khan made her debut as a choreographer in the 1992 Hindi-language coming-of-age sports film 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar.' Following her debut, she went on to choreograph songs in films like ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ (1993), ‘Waqt Hamara Hai’ (1993), ‘Aatish: Feel the Fire’ (1994), and ‘Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India.’ She made her acting debut in the 1995 Malayalam film ‘Hijack.’ In 1998, she made a brief appearance in the Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ directed by Karan Johar. In 2000, she won a ‘Filmfare Award’ for choreographing the song "Ek Pal Ka Jeena" from the film ‘Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.’ She bagged another ‘Filmfare Award’ for choreographing the song "Woh Ladki Hai Kahan" from the 2001 Hindi-language coming-of-age romance film ‘Dil Chahta Hai.’
Khan made her directorial debut in the 2004 Hindi-language masala film ‘Main Hoon Na.’ The film earned praise from critics and was a major box office success. In 2007, she directed the Hindi-language fantasy satire film ‘Om Shanti Om.’ The film opened to positive reception and was a massive box office success, grossing over ₹149 crores against a budget of ₹30 crores. She next directed the 2010 Hindi-language heist comedy film ‘Tees Maar Khan.’ The film saw negative reviews upon release with critics bashing its bad humor. Farah Khan next choreographed songs in films like ‘Delhi Belly’ (2011), ‘Housefull 2’ (2012), ‘Student of the Year’ (2012), ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013), and ‘Chennai Express’ (2013).Â
In 2014, she directed the Hindi-language action-comedy caper film ‘Happy New Year.’ The critics went harsh on the film but praised the performance of the cast. Despite opening to negative reviews, ‘Happy New Year’ was a massive box office success and grossed over 408 crores on a budget of 100 crores.Â
Apart from films, Khan has also judged several reality shows, including 'Indian Idol 1' (2004), 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 1' (2006), 'Nach Baliye 4' (2008), 'Dance India Dance Li'l Masters 1' (2010), 'Just Dance' (2011), 'Dance Ke Superkids' (2012), 'Farah Ki Dawat' (2015) and 'Nach Baliye 7' (2015). In 2021, She joined the 15th season of the Indian reality TV series 'Bigg Boss' as a mentor.
