Rooney Mara started her career by playing supporting roles in independent films such as the coming of age drama film ‘Tanner Hall’ (2009). During her early career she appeared in ‘Youth in Revolt’ and ‘The Social Network,’ in 2010, till she got her breakthrough role as the lead character, ‘Lisbeth Salander,’ in the film ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ (2011), for which she was nominated for an ‘Academy Award for Best Actress’ and ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.’
She diversified by appearing in the thriller ‘Side Effects’ (2013) and science fiction romantic drama movie ‘Her’ (2013). Mara won the ‘Best Actress Award’ at the ‘Cannes Film Festival’ in 2015 for her performance in the romantic drama ‘Carol’. Her recent portrayal of ‘Mary Magdalene’ in the movie with the same name received mixed reviews in 2019.
Rooney appeared in the television series ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ (2006) and ‘The Women’s Murder Club’ (2007). She has made guest appearances in shows like ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’ (2014 – 2015) and ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ (2015).
