Marlee Matlin is an American actress whose talent and artistic capabilities are second to none. Despite being deaf since 18 months of age, Matlin braved all the challenges that came her way to emerge as one of the highly talented actresses of Hollywood.
Matlin’s journey as an actor began at the age of seven when she started acting for ICODA’s children’s acting company. It was during one of the performances for the company that Matlin was discovered by Henry Winkler. Winkler soon cast her for the film ‘Children of a Lesser God’ and rest as they say is history. Despite being her debut film, Matlin’s artistic brilliance and her creativity and talent were explicitly perfect. Her portrayal of Sarah Norman, inarguably her best role till date, earned her an Academy and Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actress.
Interestingly, though Matlin generally played deaf characters, she sometimes played a hearing character as well. Her filmography constitutes films like ‘Grand Canyon’, ‘Hear No Evil’, ‘It’s My Party’ and so on. In television, her most promising role came for the police drama series ‘Reasonable Doubts’ as Assistant District Attorney Tess Kaufman. Some of her successful films include ‘The One I Love’, ‘Excision’, ‘No Ordinary Hero’ and so on.
