John William Oliver initially performed as stand-up comedian and appeared on TV-shows including ‘Bleak House’ (1985), ‘People Like Us’ (2001), ‘Green Wing’ (2004) and as panelist on news-quiz show ‘Mock the Week’ (2005-2006). His stand-up special ‘John Oliver: Terrifying Times’ was released in 2008.
Oliver was British correspondent (2006-2013) for American talk/satirical news TV-program ‘The Daily Show ’; he was guest-host (2013), and writer for the show (2007-2013) which earned him awards. He co-hosted satirical news-podcast ‘The Bugle’ (2007-2015).
Oliver was executive-producer and host of stand-up series ‘John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show’ (2010-2013).
Oliver currently hosts talk-show ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ (2014-present), wherein he comments on wide range of topics including popular culture, politics, mass-media, current events and more. The show earned him acclaim and numerous awards.
Oliver essayed recurring role in comedy-series ‘Community’ (2009-2014), and provided voice for TV-shows ‘Gravity Falls,’ ‘Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja,’ ‘Rick & Monty,’ ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Danger Mouse,’ ‘Big Mouth,’ and more.
Oliver’s first film appearance was in ‘The Love Guru’ (2008). He provided voice in ‘The Smurfs’ and its sequel, ‘Wonder Park,’ and ‘The Lion King.’
