Nichelle Nichols is an American singer and actress, best known as ‘Commander Nyota Uhura’ in the ‘Star Trek’ TV series, from 1966 to 1969. She made her screen debut in an uncredited role in the American musical film ‘Porgy and Bess’ (1959). In her glorious career, Nichols starred in 6 ‘Star Trek’ films, starting from ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ in 1979 to ‘Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country’ in 1991. Some of her other popular films include ‘Truck Turner’ (1974), ‘Snow Dogs’ (2002), ‘Are We There Yet?’ (2005), ‘This Bitter Earth’ (2012), and ‘American Nightmare’ (2018). She made her TV debut as ‘Norman Bartlett’ in the show ‘The Lieutenant’ in 1964. She became a series regular in ‘Star Trek’ in 1966. She also voiced her character in ‘Star Trek: The Animated Series’ in 1973. Her other TV appearances came in shows such as ‘Futurama’ (2000, 2002), ‘Heroes’ (2007), and ‘The Young and the Restless’ (2016).
