Katharine Ross’s first television role came with ‘Sam Benedict,’ a legal drama, prior to which she had auditioned for ‘West Side Story,’ a romantic musical tragedy film but could not get the role. She starred in episodes of ‘The Alfred Hitchcock Hour,’ ‘The Virginian,’ ‘Arrest and Trial,’ and ‘Gunsmoke.’ ‘Shenandoah,’ marked her film debut. Her breakout roles came with ‘The Graduate,’ the romantic comedy-drama film where she portrayed Elaine Robinson and for which she bagged in an ‘Academy Award’ nomination and ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,’ where she played the role of Etta Place and for which she earned a ‘BAFTA Award.’ She starred in ‘The Stepford Wives,’ a science-fiction horror film as Joanna Eberhart and appeared in ‘Voyage of the Damned,’ a drama film for which she won a ‘Golden Globe Award.’ Some of her other noteworthy roles in films include, ‘The Legacy,’ ‘The Graduate,’ ‘The Shadow Riders,’ ‘The Hero,’ ‘Donnie Darko,’ ‘Conagher,’ and ‘Tell Them Willie Boy is Here.’
