Celeste Holm, an ‘Academy Award’ winner, started her acting career on stage in late 1930s. She made her screen debut in musical-film ‘Three Little Girls in Blue’ (1946), followed by another musical-film ‘Carnival in Costa Rica’ (1947).
Holm’s next starrer, drama-film ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ (1947) fetched her ‘Academy Award’ and ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.’ She further appeared in psychological drama-film ‘The Snake Pit’ (1948), film-noir ‘Road House’ (1948), then 1949’s comedy films ‘Chicken Every Sunday,’ ‘Everybody Does it.’ Her role as a ‘nun’ in ‘Come to the Stable’ (1949) and as ‘Karen’ in drama-film ‘All About Eve’ (1950) brought in ‘Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress.’ Thereafter, she worked more on stage and starred in only chosen films.
Holm made her TV debut in 1950 with guest-appearance in ‘All Star Revue’ and appeared in single episodes of series ‘Lux Video Theater,’ ‘Schlitz Playhouse,’ ‘Your Jeweler’s Showcase’ and others. She played the title role of a reporter in TV-series ‘Honestly, Celeste1’ (1954).
 Holm’s next two films alongside Frank Sinatra, comedy-film ‘The Tender Trap’ (1955) and musical romantic-comedy ‘High Society’ (1956) were successful at box-office. She further starred in comedy-films ‘Bachelor Flat’ (1961) and ‘Doctor, You’ve Got to be Kidding’ (1967), musical film-adaption of Mark Twain’s ‘Tom Sawyer’ (1973), romantic-drama ‘Bittersweet Love’ (1976), biographical-film ‘The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover’ (1977), comedy-film ‘Three Men and a Baby’ (1987), title-role in direct-to-video ‘Nora’s Christmas Gift’ (1989) and more.
Holm made guest-appearances in several TV-series including ‘Checkmate,’ ‘Dr. Kildare,’ ‘Burke’s Law,’ ‘The Eleventh Hour,’ ‘The Fugitive,’ ‘The F.B.I.’ ‘Medical Center,’ ‘Insight,’ ‘Columbo,’ ‘Fantasy Island,’ ‘The Love Boat,’ ‘Archie Bunker’s Place,’ ‘Falcon Crest,’ ‘Jessie,’ ‘Touched by an Angel’ and many more.
Holms also starred in TV-movies such as ‘Carolyn’ (1956), ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’ (1966), ‘Swing Out, Sweet Land’ (1970), ‘Death Cruise’ (1974), ‘Polly’ (1989) amongst others.
Holm appeared as ‘Fairy Godmother’ in TV-film ‘Cinderella’ (1965). She played substantial roles in sitcom ‘Nancy’ (1970-1971), crime-drama series ‘Christine Cromwell (1989-1990). She appeared as ‘First Lady Florence Harding’ in miniseries ‘Backstairs at the White House’ (1979) which brought in ‘Primetime Emmy’ nomination and her performance in 52 episodes of long-running soap-opera ‘Loving’ (1991-1992) earned her ‘Daytime Emmy’ nomination. In drama-series ‘Promised Land’ (1996-1999) she featured in all 3 seasons.
Holm’s final film role was in ‘College Debts’ (2013).
