Elsa Lanchester was an English actress, best known for her lead character in the film ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ (1935). She made her screen debut in the short film ‘The Scarlet Woman (1925). She appeared in several supporting roles, before starring in ‘Bride of Frankenstein.’ She earned an ‘Oscar’ for ‘Come to the Stable’ (1949). She earned another for ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ (1957). Some of her successful films are ‘The Ghost Goes West’ (1935), ‘Ladies in Retirement’ (1941), ‘Forever and Day’ (1943), ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ (1947), ‘Mystery Street’ (1950), ‘The Glass Slipper’ (1955), ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ (1957), ‘Mary Poppins’ (1964), and ‘Willard’ (1971). Some of her unsuccessful films include 'Pajama Party’ (1948), ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’ (1967), ‘Terror in the Wax Museum’ (1973), and ‘Die Laughing’ (1980). She also appeared in TV series, ‘I Love Lucy’ (1956), ‘Night Gallery (1972), and ‘Here’s Lucy’ (1973).Â
