German-American actress Marlene made her debut in 1923 with the film ‘The Little Napoleon’. Before the beginning of the 1930s, Marlene acted on stage and in silent movies. She had her breakout role as ‘Lola-Lola’ in ‘The Blue Angel’ (1930), as she finally established herself as a well-known actress in the world of cinema.

Her list of worst movies include ‘The Scarlet Empress’ (1934), ‘The Devils is a Woman’ (1935), ‘I Loved a Soldier’ (1936), ‘The Monte Carlo Story’ (1956), ‘Just a Gigolo’ (1978) etc. ‘The Garden of Allah’ (1935) was Marlene’s first coloured movie.
Her top grossing movie till date is ‘Shanghai Express’. Her last appearance in a movie happened in her own documentary ‘Marlene’ (1984).
She received her first and only ‘Academy Award’ nomination for ‘Morocco’. Dietrich was named as the ninth greatest film star in classic Hollywood cinema by the ‘American film Institute’ in 1999. She died on 6th May, 1992 (aged 90).
