Carl Switzer was an American actor-turned dog breeder and guide. As a child, he went for sightseeing in California with his family and entered the ‘Hal Roach Studios’ and gave an impromptu performance. His performance impressed producer Hal Roach a lot. He signed Carl and his brother for ‘Our Gang’ series. Switzer made his debut as ‘Alfaalfa’ in ‘Little Rascals: Best of Our Gang’ in 1930. His character became one of the most remembered and loved characters of the series. He reprised his character in more than 20 films, including ‘Beginner’s Luck’ (1932), ‘Mail and Female’ (1937), ‘Alfa’s Double’ (1940) and ‘Gas House Kids in Hollywood’ (1947). He also made several appearances in films, such as ‘Wild and Woolly’ (1937), ‘I Love You Again’ (1940), ‘Henry and Dizzy’ (1942) ‘Island in the Sky’ (1953), ‘Motorcycle Gang’ (1957), and ‘The Defiant Ones’ (1958), which was also his final film role.Â
