Tony Curtis was an iconic American actor who did more than a hundred films in his career spanning six decades. Curtis through was revered as a talented actor all through, reached the pinnacle of success during the 1950s and 1960s. Interestingly, his films covered a wide range of genres, from light comedy to serious drama. Curtis also made numerous television appearances.
Unlike other stars, Curtis did not gain stardom and success instantly. All of his earler films were mostly mediocre. It was in 1953 that Curtis first struck a hit with the film ‘Houdini’. The movie established his position in the industry and gained him a reputation of a classic actor. What followed was a string of successful films that enhanced his status further. Curtis’s career best role came for ‘Sweet Smell of Success’ and Oscar nominated ‘The Defiant Ones’. Some of his successful films are ‘Some Like It Hot’, ‘Operation Petticoat’, ‘Spartacus’ and ‘The Boston Strangler’.Â
Curtis has had an equal share of flops in his career as well. Post 1960s, his films mainly failed. These include ‘The Great Race’, ‘Goodbye Charlie’, ‘Paris When It Sizzles’, ‘Don’t Make Waves’ and so on.Â
