Gavin MacLeod is an American actor and author, best known for starring as ‘Captain Merrill Stubing’ in the TV show ‘The Love Boat’ (1977–1986). He made his TV debut in ‘The Walter Winchell File’ in 1957 at the age of 26. His breakthrough role as ‘Murray Slaughter’ in ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ (1970-1977) got him two ‘Golden Globe’ nominations. Some of his popular TV performances came in shows such as ‘The Untouchables’ (1959-1960), ‘McHale's Navy’ (1962 -1964), which was also his first ever regular TV role; ‘Hogan's Heroes’ (1966 -1969), ‘The King of Queens’ (2001-2002), and ‘The Suite Life on Deck’ (2009). His first credited role came in the film ‘I Want to Live!’ (1958). Some of his popular films are ‘Operation Petticoat’ (1959), ‘War Hunt’ (1962), ‘A Man Called Gannon’ (1968), ‘Time Changer’ (2002), and ‘The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry’ (2009).Â
