Gene Roddenberry is an American screenwriter and producer, known for creating the mega successful science fiction series, ‘Star Trek.’ He worked as a freelance writer for American films and TV series’ during the early phases of his career, but didn’t receive the credits for most of his early work. He first received some exposure writing the scripts for ‘Highway Patrol,’ and ‘Have Gun-Will Travel,’ and later went on to produce and create a TV series, ‘The Lieutenant,’ for which he received widespread acclaim.
There were some career failures as well, in form of some unaired pilots which were not taken up by any major network, and this failure culminated in depression, from which Gene struggled for a very long time, before he tasted unprecedented success with the ‘Star Trek’ series, along with all the films in the series’ and the sequel, ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ which was his last extensive project before he died of an prolonged illness in 1991.
Although he was criticized for having a limited writing talent, Gene Roddenberry developed some screenplays such as ‘Specter,’ ‘Pretty Maids all in a Row,’ and ‘Strange New World.’
