Bernadette Peters made her stage debut with ‘This is Goggle’ (1958). She went on to appear in Broadway productions such as ‘The Most Happy Fella’ (1959), ‘The Girl in the Freudian Slip’ (1967), ‘Johnny No-Trump’ (1967), ‘George M!’ (1968), and ‘La Strada’ (1969). In 1969, she became a part of the old-time radio variety program ‘Kraft Music Hall’ She remained a part of the show until 1970. She next appeared in television series and films such as ‘George M!’ (1970), ‘Paradise Lost’ (1971), ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ (1971), ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ (1972), ‘Love American Style’ (1973), and ‘Break Up’ (1973). Peters made her big-screen debut in the 1973 American adventure comedy film ‘Ace Eli and Rodger of the Skies’ where she played the role of ‘Allison.’ The following year, she appeared in the American prison sports comedy film ‘The Longest Yard’ directed by Robert Aldrich. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, earning over $43 million against a budget of $2.9 million. She continued to star in films like ‘W.C. Fields and Me’ (1976), ‘Silent Movie’ (1976), ‘The Jerk’ (1979), ‘Tulips’ (1981), ‘Pennies from Heaven’ (1981), and ‘Heartbeeps’ (1981).
In 1982, Peters was seen playing the role of ‘Lily St. Regis’ in the American musical comedy-drama ‘Annie’ directed by John Huston. The film received a mixed response from critics. She next appeared in the 1989 American comedy-drama film ‘Slaves of New York.’ Even though the film was met with negative reviews upon release, it became a cult classic in subsequent years. She was next seen in films like ‘Alice’ (1990), ‘Impromptu’ (1991), ‘Anastasia’ (1997), ‘Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas’ (1997), ‘Barney's Great Adventure’ (1998), ‘Snow Days’ (1999), ‘Wakko's Wish’ (1999), ‘It Runs in the Family’ (2003), ‘The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration’ (2003), ‘Coming Up Roses’ (2011), ‘Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return’ (2014), and ‘The Broken Hearts Gallery’ (2020). She was last seen in the 2021 American biographical musical drama film ‘Tick, Tick... Boom!’ directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics. She will be next seen in the upcoming comedy television series ‘High Desert.’
