Dacre Montgomery made his acting debut in the 2011 short film ‘Betrand the Terrible’ in which he played the role of ‘Fred.’ After appearing in another short film titled ‘Godot's Clinic’ in 2015, Montgomery made his big-screen debut in the 2016 psychological horror Christmas film ‘Better Watch Out,’ directed by Chris Peckover. The film opened to wide critical acclaim with critics showering praise over the performance of the cast. The following year, he starred as ‘Mike’ in the Australian-British comedy film ‘A Few Less Men,’ directed by Mark Lamprell. That same year, he also starred in the American superhero film ‘Power Rangers,’ directed by Dean Israelite. Despite opening to mixed reviews, the film failed to become a commercial success and was declared a box office bomb.
In 2017, he starred as ‘Billy Hargrove’ in the science fiction horror drama television series ‘Stranger Things.’ His performance earned him 2 ‘Screen Actors Guild Award’ nominations and he remained a part of the series until 2019. In the 2020 romantic comedy film ‘The Broken Hearts Gallery,’ Montgomery portrayed Nick Danielson. The film received positive reviews from critics. He is all set to appear in the upcoming biographical musical drama film ‘Elvis’ directed by Baz Luhrmann.
