Amrita Singh made her film debut with hit movie ‘Betaab’ (1983), and subsequently, starred in ‘Sunny’ and ‘Duniya’ in 1984 and ‘Saaheb’ (1985).
Singh’s action-movie ‘Mard’ (1985), with Amitabh Bachchan, proved successful, while her performance in comedy-film ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’ (1986) earned praise. Next, she starred in ‘Naam’ (1986), ‘Khudgarz’ (1987), ‘Naam-o-Nishan’ (1987), ‘Waaris’ (1988) amongst many other movies.
In 1989, Singh featured in action-film ‘Batwara,’ superhero movie ‘Toofan,’ fantasy-thriller ‘Jaadugar,’ and action-film ‘IIlaaka.’ After starring in action-film ‘Akayla’ (1991), she essayed negative roles in 1992’s ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman,’ ‘Suryavanshi,’ and won award for 1993’s ‘Aaina.’
After a break of nearly 10 years, Singh was back with ‘23rd March 1931: Shaheed’ (2002), and a negative role in ‘Kalyug’ (2005). She made her TV debut with romantic-drama series ‘KKavyanjali’ (2005-2006).
Singh portrayed ‘mother’ of the protagonists in films ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ (2007), romantic-comedy ‘2 States’ (2014), and superhero action-comedy ‘A Flying Jatt’ (2016). She appeared in anthology-film ‘Dus Kahaniya’ (2007), romantic ‘Kajaraare’ (2010), action-thriller ‘Aurangzeb’ (2013), while comedy-drama ‘Hindi Medium’ (2017) saw her as ‘school principal.’ She was also part of mystery-thriller film ‘Badla’ (2019).
