Shruti Haasan made her acting debut as a child artist in her father, Kamal Hasan’s directorial ‘Hey Ram’ in 2000. She played the daughter of ‘Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’ in the film. In 2009, Shruti made her Bollywood debut in the 2009 film ‘Luck.’ The movie received mixed reviews from critics. The year 2011 saw the release of the fantasy adventure film ‘Anaganaga O Dheerudu.’ She played the role of ‘Priya’ which earned her the ‘Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South.’ The film also marked her Telugu debut. That same year, she also starred as ‘Subha Srinivasan’ in the A. R. Murugadoss-directed ‘7aum Arivu’ which was a critical and commercial success.
She went on to star in successful hits like ‘Gabbar Singh’ (2012), ‘Balupu’ (2013), ‘Yevadu’ (2014), and ‘Race Gurram’ (2014). In 2015, Shruti made a strong Bollywood comeback with the vigilante action film ‘Gabbar Is Back.’ The same year, she also starred in ‘Welcome Back,’ the sequel to the 2007 film ‘Welcome.’ In 2016, Shruti appeared as ‘Sithara’ in the coming-of-age romantic drama film ‘Premam’ directed by Chandoo Mondeti. The film earned praise from critics and was a massive box office success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of 2016.
Shruti Hassan was next seen in films like ‘Katamarayudu’ (2017), ‘Behen Hogi Teri’ (2017), ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ (2020), ‘The Power’ (2021), and ‘Pitta Kathalu’ (2020). She was last seen in the 2021 action drama film ‘Laabam’ directed by S. P. Jananathan. The film opened to negative reviews from critics and was a commercial failure. Shruti will be next seen in the upcoming action thriller film ‘Salaar’ directed by Prashanth Neel. The film will hit theatres in April 2022.
