Johnny Knoxville was first seen in the American sketch comedy series ‘The Ben Stiller Show’ in 1992. He went on to make his big-screen debut in the 1995 comedy film ‘Desert Blues’ directed by John J. Kelly. In 2000, he came together with Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze to create the American reality comedy television series ‘Jackass.’ Despite being surrounded by controversy, the show managed to air 25 episodes in a span of 3 seasons before going off-air in 2001. He portrayed ‘Scrad / Charlie’ in the 2002 American science fiction action comedy film ‘Men in Black II’ directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Even though the film received a mixed response from critics, it still managed to gross over $441.8 million on a $140 million budget. That same year, he also starred in the American reality slapstick comedy film ‘Jackass: The Movie’ directed by Jeff Tremaine. The film opened to a mixed critical reception but managed to gross over $79.5 million on a budget of $5 million. Knoxville was also one of the producers and writers of the film. He next starred in films like ‘Grand Theft Parsons’ (2003), ‘Walking Tall’ (2004), ‘A Dirty Shame’ (2004), ‘Lords of Dogtown’ (2005), ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ (2005), ‘Jackass Number Two’ (2006), ‘Jackass 2.5’ (2007), ‘Jackass Presents: Mat Hoffman's Tribute to Evel Knievel’ (2008), ‘Father of Invention’ (2010), ‘Jackass 3D’ (2010), ‘Jackass 3.5’ (2011), and ‘Nature Calls’ (2012).
In 2013, he played the role of ‘Lewis Dinkum’ in the Kim Jee-woon-directed American action thriller film ‘The Last Stand.’ The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics and grossed over $48.3 million on a $45 million budget. The same year also saw the release of the American anthology comedy film ‘Movie 43’ where Knoxville played the role of ‘Pete.’ The film was harshly reviewed by critics with some calling it one of the worst films ever made. Despite this, the film still managed to gross over $32.4 million on a $6 million budget. Knoxville next starred in films like ‘Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5’ (2014), ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ (2014), ‘Being Evel’ (2015), ‘Elvis & Nixon’ (2016), ‘Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine’ (2017), ‘Half Magic’ (2018), ‘Action Point’ (2018), ‘Polar’ (2019), ‘We Summon the Darkness’ (2019), and ‘Mainstream’ (2020). He last appeared in the 2022 American reality comedy film ‘Jackass Forever’ directed by Jeff Tremaine. The film was a critical and commercial success.
