Rolf Mikael Nyqvist, better known as Michael Nyquvist, came to prominence with his role as a police officer in the popular Swedish police detective series ‘Martin Beck’ (1997 – 1998). He played the lead role in the romantic comedy film ‘Grabben I graven bredvid’ (2002) for which he won a ‘Gulbagge Award for Best Actor in a leading role.’ He gained international fame with his role as the main villain in the American detective film ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ (2011). He, however, suffered a setback when ‘Abduction’ failed at the box office. One of his most notable performances came in the comedy movie ‘Folies Bergere (2014) that released the same year as his biggest flop, ‘Days and Nights’. Nyqvist died of lung cancer in June 2017. His movies ‘Hunter Killer’ (2018) and ‘A Hidden Life’ (2019) were released posthumously. The film ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ (2019) was released in the memory of the actor.
