Charlie Ross Heaton performed with various London-based bands before turning towards acting. After appearing as background performer in a few films, he featured in two episodes of the crime-drama series ‘DCI Banks’ (2015). That same year he also appeared in the crime-drama series ‘Vera’ and made a guest-appearance in the medical-drama series ‘Casualty.’ In the drama-film ‘Urban & the Shed Crew’ (2015), he played ‘Urban’s brother, Frank.
Moving to Los Angeles, Heaton starred alongside Owen Campbell in the drama-film ‘As You Are’ (2016), followed by the psychological-thriller film ‘Shut In’ (2016), wherein he appeared with Naomi Watts and Oliver Platt.
In the Netflix sci-fi horror-drama series ‘Stranger Things’ (2016-present), Heaton appeared as series-regular ‘Jonathan Byers, the older brother of a boy who disappears mysteriously. Along with the cast of the series, he won ‘Actors’ Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast.’
Heaton starred as ‘Billy Marrowbone’ in the psychological mystery-drama film ‘Marrowbone’ (2017), and the drama-film ‘No Future’ (2020). In the superhero-film (based on Marvel Comics) ‘The New Mutants’ (2020), he starred as ‘Cannonball/Samuel ‘Sam’ Guthrie.’ He also appeared in the TV-series ‘Soulmates’ (2020), and the drama-film ‘The Souvenir Part II’ (2021).
Five young mutants are kept in a secret facility against their will, to undergo treatment that will turn them into normal human beings. They soon start to question why they are being held, and who is behind it all.
This psychological thriller film revolves around a widowed child psychologist who lives in isolation. Although she is caught in a harsh winter storm, she believes that one of her patients is asking for help. Therefore, she must now find a way to rescue him before it is too late.
