Stephen Fry first appeared as a contestant in the British television quiz show ‘University Challenge’ in 1980. The following year, he made his big-screen debut in the British historical sports drama film ‘Chariots of Fire’ where he made an uncredited appearance as a singer. He was next seen in films like ‘The Good Father’ (1985), ‘A Handful of Dust’ (1988), ‘A Fish Called Wanda’ (1988), ‘Peter's Friends’ (1992), ‘IQ’ (1994), ‘Cold Comfort Farm’ (1995), and ‘The Wind in the Willows’ (1996). In 1997, he portrayed Oscar Wilde in the British biographical film ‘Wilde’ directed by Brian Gilbert. For the most part, the critics gave a positive response to the film. He was last in the 2022 American drama miniseries ‘The Dropout’ where he played the role of ‘Ian Gibbons.’
