Based on the autobiography of British Army Officer Eric Lomax. During WWII, Lomax, a POW at Japanese labor camp, was tortured by a Japanese officer after the secret radio that Lomax built was discovered. Years later, learning that his tormentor is still alive, Lomax’s wife, Patti, who wishes to free her husband of his past pains, coaxes him to confront the man.

Set in the 1960s, the film follows George Falconer, a British professor working in Los Angeles. After losing his gay partner of 16 years in a car accident, the shattered professor who has no interest left, decides to end his life. After arranging everything meticulously, he spends his last day with his students, and friends, which make him rethink about his plan.  

Dutch girl, Griet, goes to work as a maid for famed painter, Johannes Vermeer, and an unlikely friendship develops between the two which they keep a secret.
