John Banner was an Austrian-American film actor. He is best remembered for his role as ‘Master Sergeant Schultz’ in the American TV sitcom ‘Hogan's Heroes’ (1965–1971). During his career, he appeared in more than 40 films and 70 TV shows. He started his ‘Broadway’ career in the 1930s and made his first credited film appearance as a German captain in ‘Once Upon a Honeymoon’ (1942). Some of his popular films include ‘The Fallen Sparrow’ (1943), ‘My Girl Tisa’ (1948), ‘The Argyle Secrets’ (1948), ‘The Wonderful Country’ (1959), ‘The Story of Ruth’ (1960), and ’36 Hours’ (1965). Some of his flop films are ‘Seven Miles from Alcatraz’ (1942), ‘Guilty of Treason’ (1950), and ‘The Wicked Dreams of Paula Schultz’ (1968). His TV appearances came on series, such as ‘Fireside Theatre’ (1954-55), ‘Private Secretary’ (1956), ‘The Virginian’ (1963-64), and ‘The Partridge Family’ (1972), which was also his final screen appearance.
