Eva Marie Saint was first seen in the American game show ‘Campus Hoopla’ in 1946. After appearing in television series and films like ‘A Christmas Carol’ (1947), ‘Suspense’ (1949), and ‘Studio One’ (1949), Saint joined the cast of the American radio soap opera ‘One Man's Family.’ She played the role of ‘Claudia Barbour Roberts’ and remained a part of the show until 1952. Saint continued to appear in television series such as ‘Plymouth Playhouse’ (1953), ‘Martin Kane, Private Eye’ (1953), ‘Goodyear Television Playhouse’ (1953), ‘Pond's Theater’ (1954), and ‘The Philco Television Playhouse’ (1954). She made her big-screen debut in the 1954 American crime drama film ‘On the Waterfront’ directed by Elia Kazan. The film earned wide praise from critics and was a massive commercial success. Saint also received the ‘Academy Award’ for her performance in the film. She continued to star in films like ‘That Certain Feeling’ (1956), ‘That Certain Feeling’ (1957), ‘Raintree County’ (1957), ‘North by Northwest’ (1959), ‘Exodus’ (1960), and ‘All Fall Down’ (1962).Â
In 1965, she starred as ‘Anna Hedler’ in the American suspense film ‘36 Hours’ directed by George Seaton. The film saw positive reviews upon release with ‘The New Yorker’ terming it as an "ingenious thriller." That same year, she also appeared in the American drama film ‘The Sandpiper.’ The film received mostly negative reviews from critics, gaining an approval rating of 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. She starred as ‘Elspeth Whittaker’ in the 1966 American comedy film ‘The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming’ directed by Norman Jewison. The film earned praise from critics and did decent business at the box office. The same year, she also appeared in the American sports drama film ‘Grand Prix’ which was also a commercial success. In 1968, Saint was seen playing the role of ‘Sarah Carver’ in the American Western film ‘The Stalking Moon’ directed by Robert Mulligan. The film received a mixed response from critics.Â
Faith next appeared in films like ‘Loving’ (1970), ‘Cancel My Reservation’ (1972), ‘Nothing in Common’ (1986), ‘Mariette in Ecstasy’ (1996), ‘I Dreamed of Africa’ (2000), ‘Don't Come Knocking’ (2005), ‘Because of Winn-Dixie’ (2005), and ‘Superman Returns’ (2006). She was last seen in the 2014 American romantic fantasy film ‘Winter's Tale’ where she portrayed an adult ‘Willa Penn.’ The film saw negative reviews upon release and was a box office bomb. ‘Winter's Tale’ also marked the retirement of Saint.
