Connie Inge-Lise Nielsen made her film debut opposite Jerry Lewis in French film ‘Par ou t’es rentre? On t’a pas vu sortir’ (1984), and also appeared in Italian miniseries, film and French TV-movie. In 1993, she appeared in American thriller TV-film ‘Voyage,’ followed by TV-series ‘Okavango: The Wild Frontier’ (1994).
A small yet noticeable part as ‘evil temptress’ in supernatural-horror film ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ (1997) proved Nielsen’s breakout role. She essayed significant supporting roles in 1998’s comedy-drama ‘Rushmore,’ independent-drama ‘Permanent Midnight,’ and sci-fi action ‘Soldier,’ followed by sci-fi adventure-film ‘Mission to Mars’ (2000).
Nielsen was cast in lead-role as ‘Lucilla’ opposite Russell Crowe in Oscar-winning epic historical-drama ‘Gladiator’ (2000) which earned her accolades. The psychological-thriller ‘One Hour Photo’ (2002) with Robin Williams, again fetched her nominations for ‘Saturn Awards’ and others. The same year she played a challenging lead in French neo-noir thriller-film ‘Demonlover.’
In 2003, Nielsen starred in action-thriller ‘The Hunted’ and mystery-thriller with John Travolta, ‘Basic.’ Her debut Danish psychological-thriller war-film ‘Brǿdre’ (2004) won her major Danish honor, ‘Bodil Best Actress Award.’
After starring in black-comedy ‘The Ice Harvest’ (2005) and appearing as ‘Detective Dani Beck’ in ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ (2006), Nielsen starred in war-drama ‘The Situation’ (2006), political-thriller ‘Battle in Seattle’ (2007), Irish family-drama ‘A Shine of Rainbow’ (2009). She co-starred in political-drama series ‘Boss’ (2011-2012), crime-thriller series ‘The Following’ (2014) and also, European erotic art-film ‘Nymphomaniac’ (2013).
Nielsen further starred in action-thriller ‘3 Days to Kill,’ romantic-comedy ‘All Relative’ (both 2014), political-drama ‘The Runner’ (2015), and thriller-drama ‘The Confessions’ (2016).
Nielsen portrayed ‘Queen Hippolyta’ in DC comics-based movies ‘Wonder Woman’ (2017), ‘Justice League’ (2017), ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ (2020), and ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ (2021). Her recent starrers include thriller ‘Inheritance’ (2020), action-thriller ‘Nobody’ (2021) and as ‘Danish translator’ in TV’s psychological drama-series ‘Close to Me’ (2021).
