Olivia Williams toured in a production of ‘Shakespeare’s Richard’ in 1995, before making her television debut in the crime drama series ‘Van Der Valk’ (1992) in which she played the role of ‘Irene Kortman.’ That same year, she appeared in another crime drama series named ‘The Ruth Rendell Mysteries.’
After taking a 4-year break, Olivia returned to television in 1996 and starred in ‘Emma,’ the film adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel of the same name. The film received a positive reception and went on to become a commercial success, garnering over 12 million viewers. Olivia then starred in films like ‘Rushmore’ (1998), ‘The Sixth Sense’ (1999), ‘Four Dogs Playing Poker’ (2000), and ‘Dead Babies’ (2000). In 2001, she starred in the Peter Cattaneo-directed comedy film ‘Lucky Break.’ While the film received mixed reviews from critics, Olivia was praised for her performance and even earned an ‘Empire Award’ nomination. Olivia was next seen in the 2002 film ‘The Heart of Me’ directed by ‘Thaddeus O'Sullivan.’ She played the role of ‘Madeleine’ for which won the ‘British Independent Film Award’ for Best Actress. She continued to appear in films such as ‘To Kill a King’ (2003), ‘Valiant’ (2005), ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ and ‘An Education’ (2009)
In 2010, Olivia Williams starred as ‘Ruth Lang’ in the film ‘The Ghost Writer’ for which she won ‘National Society of Film Critics Award’ and ‘London Critics Circle Film Award.’
