American born-Swiss songwriter, singer and actress Tina Turner first made it big as a member of ‘Ike & Tina Turner Revue’ with hits like ‘River Deep – Mountain High’ (1966) and ‘Proud Mary’ (1971). She released her debut album ‘Tina Turns the Country On’ in 1974 that was followed by several hits including ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ (1993) and ‘Twenty Four Seven’ (1999). She has appeared as herself in a number of television shows and films and won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance in ‘Mad Max beyond Thunderdome’ (1985).
Tina and Ike Turner fell out with each other in the mid 70s due to Ike’s drug abuse and domestic violence. During this period their shows flopped and ultimately led to their divorce. She made a comeback with her solo album ‘Private Dancer’ (1984) that was a huge success, winning four Grammy Awards and selling more than 20 million copies worldwide.
Tina re-married at the age of 73 in 2013 and still has a large fan following. ‘TINA: The Musical’ is a biographical depiction of her life that is in the making and set to be released at the Aldwych Theatre in London’s West End in 2018.
