Roger Harry Daltrey started as lead-singer with band ‘Detour,’ and later made huge strides in field of music as co-founder and lead-singer of legendary rock-band ‘The Who’ and also, as a solo artist.
Daltrey made his acting debut as lead in Ken Russell’s fantasy-drama film ‘Tommy’ (1975), adapted from rock-opera album ‘Tommy’ by ‘The Who,’ and received ‘Golden Globe’ nomination for ‘Best Acting Debut in Motion Picture.’ He portrayed Hungarian music-maestro ‘Franz Liszt’ in Russell’s musical-film ‘Lisztomania’ (1975) and also contributed to its soundtrack.
Daltrey’s next starrer was horror-film ‘The Legacy’ (1978), and was producer-star of drama-film ‘McVicar’ (1980) wherein he played titular armed robber who turned writer McVicar. In 1983, he starred in musical TV-production ‘The Beggar’s Opera,’ and TV-film ‘The Comedy of Errors.’ He played lead in thriller-film ‘Murder: Ultimate Grounds for Divorce’ (1984) then appeared in adventure-film ‘Pop Pirates’ (1984) and musical-film ‘The Little Match Girl’ (1986).
Daltrey appeared in various TV-series such as ‘Buddy’ (1986), ‘Crossbow’ (1987), ‘Gentry’ (1987), ‘How to be Cool’ (1988), ‘Midnight Caller’ (1991) and others. He starred in film-adaption of musical ‘The Threepenny Opera’-- ‘Mack the Knife’ (1990), TV-film ‘Forgotten Prisoners: The Amnesty Files’ (1990) and ‘Cold Justice’ (1989).
Daltrey was producer, music-composer, star of comedy-drama film ‘Buddy’s Song’ (1991), then appeared in action-comedy film ‘If Looks Could Kill’ (1991). Many of his concert performances were filmed and broadcast on TV. He provided voice for children’s animated short ‘The Real Story of Happy Birthday to You’ (1992).
