Whitney Houston was a legendary actress and singer who was felicitated by Guinness World Records as the most awarded female act of all time. A prodigious singer, Houston has a number of firsts to her credit which made her one of the best-selling artists of all time.Â
Houston rose to prominence with her exceptional singing capabilities. By the end of 1980s, her albums and singles topped the charts and earned her the prestigious Grammy award as well. With the increasing fame she started receiving film offers. Though she declined a number of offers initially, in 1992 she gave green signal to the film ‘The Bodygaurd’, co-starring Kevin Costner. Despite the film’s mixed reviews, it was hugely successful at the box office, becoming one of the top grossing films of the time. She then followed it up with her second film ‘Waiting to Exhale’.Â
Houston’s filmography includes other hits like ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ and a made-for-television remake of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella’. She even did a couple of documentaries. After a brief stint in films, Houston returned to her love for music and singing and took her career to greater heights. Â
