Kim Soo-hyun initially performed in Shakespearian plays before making his screen-appearance on the family-sitcom ‘Kimchi Cheese Smile’ (2007).
Kim bagged the lead role in thew award-winning popular youth-series ‘Jungle Fish’ (2008), dealing with real-life story about pressures of achievements on students. He then co-hosted ‘Delicious Quiz’ and appeared in short films ‘Cherry Blossom’ (2008) and ‘Worst Friends’ (2009). After the drama-special ‘Father’s House,’ he co-hosted ‘Boys & Girls Music Countdown’ (both 2009).
Kim featured in the melodrama-series ‘Will it Snow for Christmas?’ (2009-2010) and won ‘Best New Actor Award’ for series ‘Giant’ (2010). He worked on his role as ‘Music genius’ and also contributed songs in the highly popular musical-drama ‘Dream High’ (2011), earning wide-spread fame.
Kim’s next film, the period-drama ‘Moon Embracing the Sun’ (2012), wherein he portrayed ‘King Leehwon,’ and recorded for soundtrack, was a major hit, gaining him recognition all across Asia, and fetching ‘Baeksang Best Actor (TV) Award.’
Kim’s debut feature film, ‘The Thieves’ (2012), with ensemble cast, was a block-buster hit. His role as the ‘infiltrating North Korean spy’ in the mega-hit action comedy-drama ‘Secretly, Greatly’ (2013) earned him ‘Baeksang Arts Best New Actor (Films) Award’ and ‘Grand Bell Award.’
Kim’s lead-role in the fantasy romantic-comedy series ‘My Love from Star’ (2013-2014) won him ‘Daesang Award’ at ‘Korea Drama Award’ and ‘Baeksang Arts Most Popular Actor (TV) Award.’ His two songs from the series-album became immensely popular throughout Asia. His next drama-series, ‘The Producers,’ (2015) repeated the success, fetching a ‘Daesang Award.’
Kim’s 2017 neo-noir action-film ‘Real’ was a commercial failure. After his military service, he appeared in cameo-roles, before starring as ‘psych-ward caretaker’ in the Netflix romance-drama ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’ (2020), which got good reviews and won him ‘Daesang.’ His latest starrer is thriller-drama series ‘One Ordinary Day’ (2021).
